Intel Demonstrates Real-Time Switching Technology Between Wi-Fi and WiMax

December 12, 2007 – 10:32 am

Intel Demonstrates Real-Time Switching Technology Between Wi-Fi and WiMaxIntel demonstrated a new wireless technology that could be the cornerstone for dynamical network switching between a Wi-Fi and a WiMax network at no connectivity loss. The new technology has been introduced yesterday, during the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, and is the result of a research partnership between Intel, mobile manufacturer Nokia, and Nokia Siemens Networks. The research aims at developing a mobile technology that would allow the upcoming mobile Internet devices to roam between the available networks as the user is moving through different parts of the city. The technology should be able to tune the device in to the next available network before terminating the previous connection. Listening to Internet radio or watching online video has never been simpler and disruption-free.

Olympics – A Major 2008 Computer Threat

December 6, 2007 – 9:20 am

olympics-a-major-2008-computer-threat-2.gif2008 may be a busy year when it comes to computer threats, as the attackers prepare an avalanche of malicious attempts over our systems, Websense wrote in the “2008’s Top Ten Security Threats” report published today. Although the security vendor presented all the top ten threats which may appear next year, I prefer to talk about the first and the most dangerous one: the Olympics. This memory storage is powered by an undisclosed type of nanotechnology, which allows the creation of extremely vast storage spaces that are cheap and very small-sized. The new type of memory has been named programmable metalization cell (PMC) and will be the cortnerstone of tomorrow’s new and large portable storage.

Awaiting Amateur Sleuth Companion - The Google Mystery Van

December 6, 2007 – 9:12 am

the-google-mystery-van-awaiting-amateur-sleuth-companion-2.jpgThe name that the press has given this case is really worthy of being on the cover of an Agatha Christie novel or at the very least a “Scooby Doo, Where Are You!” episode: “The Canoe Man Mystery”. Oh, the original Scooby Doo, not the one with Scrappy Doo or the other big white hillbilly-yokel type of relative, I forgot his name. By the way, Scrappy’s crappy, just to get the record straight.

Legitimate Screensavers Used in Malware Attacks

December 5, 2007 – 2:38 pm

Legitimate Screensavers Used in Malware AttacksMalware writers turn to all kinds of techniques in order to trick people, infect their computers and reach their goal, no matter if we’re talking about stealing some data or just luring them on malicious websites. As part of their latest attempt, attackers who built rogue security applications even implemented legitimate software supposed to make the data more credible. For instance, Paolo Palumbo of McAfee writes about a malware sample which came with a legitimate screensaver informing him he got infected.
